Overview
Immaterial: What Remains, Younghwan PARK Solo Exhibition

⠀
GALLERY MAC is pleased to present 《Immaterial: What Remains》, a solo exhibition by Younghwan Park(b.1998-), on view from February 28 to March 28. Working primarily with ink and hanji (traditional Korean paper), the artist has explored layers of emotion, memory, and time not only through painting, but also through performance and installation. This exhibition presents 17 new works, including paintings and fired panel pieces, raising questions about sensations and states that do not entirely disappear even after vanishing.
⠀
The black spheres that appear in the artist’s compositions function as formative units that embody the processes through which life condenses, separates, and flows once again. Positioned incongruously within landscapes or architectural spaces, these forms disrupt the order of representational scenery and visualize the multilayered structure of life. The spreading and permeation of ink, along with the possibilities of accumulation and erasure, resonate with the artist’s exploration of “immateriality.” Rather than serving as a site of depiction, the pictorial surface operates as a field where the density of lingering time becomes visible.
