GALLERY MAC presents a solo presentation of Jungmyung Kim (b. 1945, Busan) at Frieze Seoul 2026 Spotlight, centered on his seminal <Yellow Line > series (1999–2000).
⠀
Emerging from the experimental currents of Korean art in the 1960s and 1970s, Kim has developed a singular practice that moves fluidly across painting, sculpture, object-based work, and installation.
⠀
In <Yellow Line>, created at the turn of the millennium, the familiar yellow road marking becomes more than a sign on the street. It expands into both a boundary—one that regulates, divides, and controls—and a path tracing the course of human civilization.
⠀
More than twenty-five years have passed since these works were made, yet the questions they raise—of order and control, development and destruction, center and periphery, civilization and nature—remain strikingly unresolved.
How might the questions Kim posed at the end of the 1990s resonate with us today?
